Message from the 2020 - 2021 IOH Chair

Hello and Welcome! It is my honor to serve as chair of The ADHA’s Institute for Oral Health (IOH) this year! The IOH is the only national foundation for the important work of dental hygienists.

In conjunction with ADHA, the Institute supports oral healthcare professionals throughout their career by providing the following to ADHA members:

Community Service Grants
Research Grants
Scholarships
DCC Travel Grant

These vital programs would not be here without the generous support of individual like you, who care about oral healthcare. Your  donation makes this work possible. Please know that any donation does help us make a difference in supporting dental hygiene students and hygienists with scholarships, research grants, and community service grants!

I’m looking forward to serving all of you as the IOH Chair as well as working with the dental hygiene community to find new and creative ways to support ADHA’s IOH in our ever changing environment.

Message from the Liz Chaney Liaison of the Year

It is my honor and privilege to be the recipient of the 2021 Liz Chaney Award.

With a long and varied career which has included several years as a dental hygiene educator and a public health hygienist, I know first-hand how important the Institute of Oral Health is to our profession. IOH is the only national foundation for dental hygienist. IOH is essential to advancing the art and science of dental hygiene. As an organization for hygienists by hygienists, the scholarships, community service grants and research grants are instrumental to our members. The support and generosity of our members is greatly appreciated and what better way to grow our own garden by providing future dental hygiene educators, researchers, and philanthropists the means to advance our profession.

I commend all our IOH Liaisons who work tirelessly on behalf of the IOH all year as well as the IOH Chair and staff who support us.

        ADHA Institute for Oral Health Committees

        Community Service Grant Review Committee
        The Community Service Grant Review Committee includes four reviewers that possess an understanding and expertise in community service programming and performance measures. This Committee reviews all complete Community Service Grant proposals for the Wrigley Company Foundation Community Service Grant Program in the fall and reviews submitted proposals for the Healthy Start for Texas Teeth and Rosie Wall Community Spirit, Community Service Grant Programs in the spring. This Committee will meet twice per year (fall and spring) to make recommendations to the Board of Directors for Community Service Grant funding.

        Research Grant Review Committee
        The Research Grant Review Committee is comprised of four reviewers that demonstrate prior knowledge and expertise in the field of oral healthcare and dental hygiene research. This Committee must review all complete Research Grant Proposals for the Institute for Oral Health Research Grant Program and the named Dimensions of Dental Hygiene Research Grant Program. This Committee meets in the spring to make recommendations to the Board of Directors for Research Grant funding.

        Scholarship Review Committee
        The Scholarship Review Committee consists of three reviewers that exhibit expertise in the field of dental hygiene higher education. This Committee must review all complete scholarship applications for each of the Institute for Oral Health Scholarships. This Committee meets in the spring to make recommendations to the Board of Directors for Scholarship funding.

    Liaisons

    Liaisons are volunteers, grassroots fundraisers, ADHA leaders, and change-makers. The fundraising they do on behalf of the Institute for Oral Health directly contributes to scholarships, community service grants and research grants to dental hygienists throughout the United States. Liaisons also hold a critical job as communicators—they are charged with the important duty of communicating Institute for Oral Health opportunities such as open scholarships and grants. Lastly, Liaisons are advocates for their communities. Liaisons work closely within the state and local chapters and communicate the needs of those communities to the National ADHA Institute for Oral Health offices to better serve the dental hygiene community.
